Site Title:Turtle Diary
What content did you find useful about this site? The website is useful because it is composed of mini video lessons and interactive assessments that really ask the students to think, not just to give the answer straight forward. It also focuses on various subjects and topics that both teachers and parents would find helpful such as printed worksheets following short video instruction guides. The website even has age appropriate puzzles and jigsaws to help students develop their thinking and problem solving skills. E-reading can also be accessed on certain grade topics with defined vocabulary.
Appropriate grade(s) _Preschool to 4th grade (5th grade coming soon)
Unit of study to connect with: science experiments, abstract math concepts, biographies of historical and influential people, literacy concepts etc. (the site includes a very wide array of educational topics). I chose to focus on the science experiments section.
Subject/s to incorporate: Math, ELA, Science, Social Studies, Art
Specific skills to tie in with this link: independent practice of specific subject matter skills, reading skills, math skills, inquiry skills, technology skills
Specific outcome of visiting this site: After teaching a lesson this website could be used as an independent assessment for the students if the classroom is equipped with the technology tools. This website could also be used to review topics taught in class when students are absent. The videos present simple yet age appropriate representations and examples, with follow up assessments and independent work. Student centered group work is also easily achieved with the help of the step by steps videos. For example I would plan science experiment groups with the help of this website. The students would be given roles and each person would have to follow the directions and work together to complete the experiment. The how to videos on how to carry out the experiment are very straight forward and detail exactly what the students need and what they should be doing in each step. Then the class would then come together and discuss the experiment, outcomes and any challenges or questions the students may have encountered.
